Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the Well-aging program on physical fitness( upper limbs strength, static balance, dynamic balance), perceived health status, successful aging and loneliness for community dwelling elderly.

Methods : A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. The subjects of this study were 71 elderly aged 65 or over in G city. Elderly people who agreed to participated in this study were assigned to a experimental group(n£½35) or a control group(n£½36). The program was conducted 3 hours, once a week .for 12 weeks, Data were collected from March to June, 2017. For data analysis, Chi-square, independent t-test and ANCOVA were performed using SPSS version 23.0.

Results : Upper limbs strength(Rt)(F£½6.00, p£½.017), static balance(F£½24.23, p£¼.001), dynamic balance(F£½23.81, p£¼ .001), perceived health status(F£½15.51, p£¼.001) in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of elderly in the control group. The loneliness score of elderly in the experimental group was significantly lower than that of elderly in the control group(F£½11.20, p£½.001).

Conclusion : The Well-aging program was effective on upper limbs strenth Rt., static balance, dynamic balance, perceived health status, loneliness of community dwelling elderly. It can be recommended as a public health program for the elderly population in the community.
